Back propagation tutorial experiment

INTRODUCION

You have been invited to participate in a study on presentation techniques for on-line video tutorials. The aim of this study is to understand the effectiveness of different video lecture designs. The purpose of this page is to inform you about the goals and procedures of this study and what would involve in your participation.

TOPIC

The topic of the video (around 7 minutes) is about the back propagation algorithm.

PROCEDURE

The whole experiment will take you about 30-45 minutes. The experiment consists of following steps, please complete them in order: 


1. Pre-questionnaire

Please start by completing a pre-questionnaire on line, which is about some basic personal information. Your identity will remain anonymous.

2. Pre-test

Please answer several questions to evaluate your background knowledge about the subject of the lecture.

3. Watch the video lecture

After completing the pre-questionaire and pre-test, please watch the attached video (6 min 31s).  You may the video at any time..

4. Self-report

After  watching the video,  please complete a self-report about your impressions and satisfaction regarding the presentation.

5. Post-test

After watching the video, please complete the  post-test to have information on what you understood from the video.

6. Answers for transfer question

Finally,  after you have completed the post-test,  if you are interested in the answers to the  questions in the post-test , you may find these in a short video (1min 24s). 

CONFIDENTIALITY

Data from this experiment will be stored anonymously in a database and processed during a data analysis phase. All data is anonymous.  Data will be retained  for  seven years. The information will be used used for academic and scientific purposes by the  Pervasive Interaction Research Team of LIG and INRIA. Any personal information  will be removed before data analysis. It will not be possible to determine your identity in any of the study reports, in accordance with current national and European legislation.

The results of this study may be published in scientific journals or disseminated at scientific meetings or conferences. The anonymity and confidentiality of the data collected is guaranteed by all of the partners in this project. In accordance with the provisions of the CNIL (law relating to data processing, files and freedoms), you have a right of access and rectification.

The authorization to use your data remains voluntary, it remains valid until the end of the study unless you decide to withdraw it. If you decide to withdraw your consent of participation, please contact the professors in charge of the study.

Since you withdraw your consent of participation, your data will not be used in any of the later phases of this project. However, documents which have already been published cannot be modified.
